Our Beta Chapter, the Empowered Arab Sisterhood at UC Davis, held their first Annual Grill-Off this past weekend fulfilling both their philanthropic and community outreach expectations. Multiple student organizations were invited to compete in who would ultimately create the most delectable burger in hopes of appealing to our very own empowered arab sisters. TKE and Theta Chi tied for first place in the Grill Off and TKE brought home the win in the Volleyball tournament.
The funds raised at this event went to benefit Syrian refugee relief. Due to the conflicts plaguing Syria today, the number of refugees has reached an estimated 2.5 million, 1.2 of which are children. The refugee crisis is only intensifying, thus this cause will be the focus of our annual charity benefit, Remembering the Refugees. Our banquets will be benefiting the Syrian Refugees of the Al Zaatari Camp with medical aid through the Salaam Cultural Museum. Special thanks to those who contributed to this event and our beta chapter looks forward to seeing you all at their Remembering the Refugees banquet in Davis May 9th.
